Project Life, 2015 | Week Twenty-Two.

Hello Thursday!

And welcome to week twenty-two of our Project Life album. Just the usual around here – school athletics carnival, swimming for all, Rhee Taekwondo for William, school comp aerobics for the girls. Stella started ballet again which I’m thrilled about even though it makes my head spin to think that it’s taken up our only free afternoon. Henry continues to loves his soccer. I put my hand up to be his teams coach this term and I can honestly say I am loving it. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my soccer coaching mentors and advisors Google and YouTube. My little team of under 6’s have enthusiastically called themselves The Gorillas. Love it.  Read More

Project Life, 2014 | Week Twenty-Two.

Hello Friday!

I am so excited that it is Friday. The kids and I are heading straight to the beach after school and I can’t wait. It is stinking hot here and so the beach is really the only place to be on a day such as this.

Welcome to week twenty-two of my Project Life journey. I now know that I am a true lover of simplicity when it comes to my Project Life layouts. I did a little test today while putting week twenty-two together. I pulled out a lot of embellishments I had in my stash along with some happy mail from the super creative and ever-so-generous Olya of Paint Paper Studio. I was Read More

Project Life, 2013 | Week Twenty-Two.

Hello Thursday!

And welcome to my ‘getting there’ Project Life journey for 2013.

Week Twenty-two. This was a tough week for our little family. A lot of emotional ‘stuff’ went on. Unnecessary . Annoying. I guess all part of this crazy process I am going through after a separation.

However, as you will see in my little note to my babes, I chose not to reveal all in the pockets of my Project Life week. I chose to fill those pockets with the positives.

As the weeks go on and as I put those weeks into my Project Life album I often have to stop and ask myself “how much do I tell?”.

I’ve decided to keep the positives in the forefront of my memory keeping. There is a lot of wonderful things going on in our lives. So much. However, in the spirit of true storytelling I have written notes on the back of some of the journaling cards. I will never show these on my blog and the kids don’t know they exist but I know they are there. Sometimes they are just words, sometimes a few sentences. It’s part of our story I need to tell, discreetly, for now.

For my week twenty-two I used some of the new patterned papers from Amy Tangerine’s new collection called Cut & Paste. Really fun to work with.

I got the papers out of Studio Calico kit together with the embroidery stencil and embellishments.

I haven’t rounded any corners because I didn’t use any journaling cards from any of the Project Life core kits. I don’t mind working with the sharp corners and enjoyed mixing the look up a bit.

Thank you for taking a look at my week twenty-two. I’m still plodding along and still loving this project very, very much.

Have a great one all! x

Project Life | Week Twenty-Two.

Welcome to my Project Life | Week Twenty-Two.

I’m still working with my iPhone for the photos. Missing my Nikon terribly for everything! Sigh. But I’m exploring the Canon option together with looking at the latest + greatest Nikons. Leave a comment + let me know your thoughts, pros + cons if you are currently using Nikon or Canon. xxx

This week I had some more fun with a Studio Calico Monthly Kit + used some bits + pieces that I had lying around on my workbench. I wanted to keep the week relatively simple. Neutral colours. Clean. Just focus on the photos + journaling. Have I told you how much I love the Clementine Core Kit palette..? Well I do!!!

Still enjoying jumping in + creating my title cards. Here I used the Dear Lizzy patterned paper Sea Breeze, a tag from the CHAP Decorative Tags, a Printed Tag from Jenni Bowlins collection + that big beautiful butterfly with the fluffy centre is from a Studio Calico monthly kit from months ago. The punched butterfly hiding underneath the Printed Tag is from my favourite punch of all time – Martha Stewarts Monarch Butterfly. {This punch is currently on sale in my store! It’s the only punch I stock at the moment simply because it’s my favourite}. The paper is punched from a ‘specials’ announcement that came in the Studio Calico Monthly Kit. I love using scraps. The tiny text is from Cosmo Cricket. I don’t stock it at the moment but I have an equally gorgeous, arty quote sheet from Cosmo Cricket here. The teal chevron circle + the striped embellishment that I slapped my date stamp on is also from the kit.

Through the centre of my layout I used my trusty Clementine Core Kit journaling cards. My little Instagram photos fit perfectly on the 3 x 4 cards. Scarlett got a new haircut. All her idea + she looks fabulous! I love how she has such a strong, independent opinion on her likes (+ her dislikes…) at such a young age. The text stickers are teal Alpha Stickers from October Afternoon + paper I used for the 4 x 6 card is from Amy Tangerine {which I’ve sold out of…}

Love the Amy Tangerine typewriter that I cut out from a 12 x 12 sheet of her The Good Life patterned paper.

This 4 x 6 card was trimmed from the Amy Tangerine The Good Life patterned paper also. I thought it quite fitting considering it documented me completing some pages of the Amy Tangerine DAYBOOK at the hairdressers.

Now this was fun!!! Confetti pockets inspired by Glue Stick Girl / Moments In Between blog. Check it our here. I love her style.

Method? All I did was punch out a whole heap of little shapes using a mini star punch, a mini punctuation punch + a mini butterfly punch. I chose colours that complemented the colour palette of my layout. My daughters, Stella + Scarlett, actually helped me punch out the shapes. Needless to say I have A LOT more shapes to use in the future. To create the pocket I used a Becky Higgins, 6 x 12 page protector, slipped in two of the kids awards back to back + sewed 0.5 cm above the awards. I also trimmed just under 3″ off the top of the 6 x 12 page protector so that is was shorter then the 12 x 12 behind so that it stood out. After filling the top of the trimmed 6 x 12 page protector with my homemade/daughter-made confetti I sewed the top up to create the seal. I used pink cotton to try + tie in the bits of pink on the layout. I love the look of the confetti pocket. You will probably see them a bit more throughout the next couple of weeks.

That note behind the confetti pocket is the Ode to Can which I typed out, folded + placed straight onto the back of the previous weeks card. I was originally going to write it out on a journaling card but I kept making mistakes + it was taking to much time so I just printed it out. Keeping it simple!

More journaling on the Clementine Core Kit journaling cards documenting an every day disaster…

Henry… Hen… Gotta love his curiosity. x I love how there is lots of journaling in this photo + I love the black that the photo picks up, including Henry’s nail polish (the black nail polish is a personal favourite right now. Don’t be afraid to use black!)

The grid paper bag is what was holding the embellishments out of the Studio Calico Monthly Kit. I love using stuff like this in my projects. The photo was of a sign that I pass every single Saturday morning after dropping Stella off to her ballet lesson. It’s on my way to the little coffee shop that I go to in order to get my early Saturday morning jolt.

Have you ever noticed how you just suddenly stop seeing the ‘everyday’ things in your life because they are things that you see every single day? This was one of them. One of the many reasons why I love this project. It makes you capture, re-discover + re-embrace the everyday aspects of your live, + I’m not just taking about the physical signs…

On that note I’m off. As always, thank you for having a look at my little life. Leave a comment if you have time. And thank you for your continuing support + encouragement with Polka Dot Creative. I appreciate you all every single day. x
