#polkadotcreative | Lots of pretty.

Hello Friday!

This week’s #polkadotcreative blog post is FULL of colour and pretty. Almost the long weekend (do I hear a whoop whoop?) I have shared a link to those contributors who have blogs so that you can see more of their creativity.

@aimeec27 | created an amazing, beautiful, scrumptious. colourful, full of bits and pieces Project Life week using my May mini kit.

Read more and see more on Aimee’s blog, Betwixt and Between.

@themakingtable | Susan used some Amy Tangerine and Dear Lizzy in her Project Life title card and stamps from my favourite stamp shop, Give a Girl a Stamp. How absolutely adorable are those feet!

I’m guessing those adorable feet belong to this adorable face. Awww bubba. I spy some more Dear Lizzy patterned paper and another stamp from Give a Girl a Stamp (and loving that washi tape too!). Check out more of Susan’s creative work on her blog, The Making Table.

@ruthb123 | another beautiful customer making my May mini kit look great. Loving that Maggie Holmes camera patterned paper. Visit Ruth on her blog, called We All Live in a Yellow Scrapmachine. (LOVE THAT NAME!)

@petracorcoran | Petra has become addicted to the Amy Tangerine embroidery kits. (Haven’t we all!) I love how she has embroidered straight onto the photo. I great idea to fill ‘void’ space within a photo and also a fun way to add dimension and texture to your digital pages.

I included this photo of Petra’s just because it makes me want to take a big deep breath in and smile. Petra has listed a few more things that she thinks is pretty on her blog, Thanks for Dropping In.

Thanks to everyone who contributed this week. Yes, I popped more than one photo from some of you but sometimes it’s really hard to choose. I have saved some for next week too.

Hopefully you will be able to steal some time over the next three days to get creative. At the very least you might be able sit, have a cuppa, visit some of these creative blogs and get inspired.

See you tomorrow! xxx

WINNER of the Inspire Embroidery Kit GIVEAWAY!

Yep. A day late but as they say “better late then never” right?

The comments left on the Hey Boys! blog post were really wonderful. And I think we actually flushed out a male memory keeper!

There were a lot of stories told about sons and partners getting involved, in some way, big or small, with your memory keeping endeavours. I think it is fantastic. Any help is great and welcomed isn’t it? Even if it is simply encouragement. We pour our hearts and souls into documenting our/their lives and to get even just a tiny bit of gratitude is warming and spurs us on to continue. Agreed?

As always it was really difficult to choose a winner of this awesome Amy Tangerine Inspire embroidery kit. The comment that I decided on this week was by SUSAN who wrote:

My boys are becoming memory keepers in their own way. They ask me to take photos of them, and whatever things that are doing at the time. ie. holding the biscuits they iced and decorated at school..that kinda thing. And hubby is great at taking photos of the boys when they their boy activities on a weekend – he’s helping recording our story. When my grandfather passed away a few years ago, mum found a little notebook where he recorded the date he first arrived in Australia and the name of the ship he arrived on, all the dates him and Grandma went overseas, and other significant events. That was his way of documenting his life. It was such a treasure for mum to find. And thank you for another awesome giveaway xx

Thank you Susan for sharing your story with us. Please email me your address and I’ll get your Amy Tangerine embroidery kit in the post for you asap. I love that your boys are becoming memory keepers and that they are active in your memory keeping of their lives and that your hubby take photos of their adventures for you to use. I also loved your story about your grandfather. What a treasure that little notebook is! And how exciting for your family to have those dates in history recorded.

Thank you everyone for participating in this giveaway. I appreciate the time and effort that you put into the comments that you left. I love, love, LOVE reading every single one of them and try my hardest to reply to show you how much I appreciate your time.

Thank you also to all of those people who have already purchased my May mini kit. I have just made up a second batch so if you would like one they are still available.

There is a lot included in this months kit including some scrumptious Maggie Holmes patterned papers, hand stitched tags, one of my confetti pockets full of sparkle and…

…a stamp designed by Give a Girl a Stamp exclusive for Polka Dot Creative.

I also have a couple of April mini kits available.

Thanks everyone! xxx

Project Life, 2013 | Week Fourteen.

Hello Monday evening!

Kids are in bed, finally. Always hard that first night before the new term starts. I’ve been letting them say up a bit later each night during the holidays. It might be a bit painful in the morning…

Here is week fourteen of my Project Life journey. You know what? I really need to stop worrying about the process of this project. Yes, I’m behind, but as today proved, once you get stuck into it the week can been done within 40 mins. Perhaps it was because I was using my mini kit? Perhaps it was because week fourteen was so fresh in my memory? Who knows? All I know is that it came together super quick in between the lunch feeding frenzy here and a woolies shop (hence the ‘Earn and Learn’ instagram post earlier tonight).

The right side. I still took all my photos outside in indirect sunlight but I experimented with taking the photos of my main layouts on butchers paper.

The left side. I’m kind of torn between the nice, clean white behind the layout and the earthly, dark tones of my beloved outdoor wooden table.

As always, I design my mini kits around using them with the Project Life core kits. This week I chose to add black to my layout. I love working with black and the edgy result it gives.

I also experimented with the vellum Chaos Cards from Documenting Chaos. I painted them cream with acrylic paint using my Jenni Bowlin paint dabbers. Then, on this particular accent, I stamped it with one of Kellie’s stamps from Give a Girl a Stamp using black Stazon ink. The sets I used this week were ‘Best Friends’ and a stamp set yet to be released (yes, I’m so lucky to get to show you a sneak peek!!)

I love how the yellow chevron overlay from Hambly Screen Prints turned out. Simple but so effective with the yellow.

My title card is designed using embellishments from my April mini kit. I love the tag from Audrey and Bear, which I have to acknowledge, was lovingly donated by my friend Karen Baker.

I wanted to get a bit creative yet keep it simple when using the wooden pegs. I had a few enquires about how to use them. All I did here was wrap a bit of the twine that was included in the mini kit around one of the pegs. I tied a knot to secure it. Then I threaded the twine through the hole in the tag and through the holes that I punched out on my quote. Then I wrapped the end of the twine around the second peg, again tying the end to secure it. Then I carefully adhered each piece of my ‘banner’ to the 4×6 card with tape runner.

The glassine bag is what held all the embellishments of the mini kit together. I love trying to use everything. Even the packaging.

I love this baby girl. Have you noticed? xxx I popped the flair button that was included in the April mini kit from A Piece of Cake Designs on this photo. It was perfect. Raquel has got a gorgeous blog too. Check it out here.

See that ‘there’ stamp? That is from the new stamp set that is yet to be released at Give a Girl a Stamp and that brown paper that it’s stamped on is from the little brown paper bag that my mini kit comes in. See? You can use it all. SCRAPbooking 😉

It was Stella’s first school camp. She’s typically an anxious little thing which is why she is so organised. She wants to be on top of everything. She had her bags packed two days before camp day. I love her so much.x

I love using tiny alpha stickers which is why I included them in the April mini kit. Yellow isn’t my first go-to colour but I liked using something different. They are cute too cute. That ‘&’ symbol is one of the Chaos Cards from Documenting Chaos that I painted.

Just so happened that William’s t-shirt matched the Heyday patterned paper called ‘Silly’ from Studio Calico that was in the mini kit!

My mess. My Creative Chaos. My life. That tab looking piece is a journaling card from the Clementine core kit (one of my old favourites) cut down and slotted behind the photo. That stamp is one of the ones I have had a sneak peek of. Coming soon to Give a Girl a Stamp.

Thanks for checking out my week fourteen.

I only have four of the April mini kits available. You can purchase your here.

For those of you who have already purchased one of my April mini kits – THANK YOU! I am seeing some repeat offenders each month. It’s fantastic and spurring me on to possibly starting up a monthly subscription. Can’t believe I’m getting to that point! Again, THANK YOU!

Please send me an email of your work using the April mini kit to jodie@polkadotcreative.com.au. I want to put an inspiration blog post together and would love to see what you have all come up with. xxx

Have a great day tomorrow! And to all of those fellow parents sending their kiddies off to school for their first day of term two….

Then in the early hours of this morning I instagrammed that the release would be today. I even through in a ‘promise’. Well, technically I’m being true to my word, however, I know that you all wanted it sooner. I’m so sorry and thank you so much for your patience. xxx

INSPIRATION | with Michelle using mini kits.

Hello Friday!

Today I wanted to share with your some pretty awesome Project Life pages put together one of our Project Life Australia group members, Michelle Stokes. This girl is a machine! Check these out.

Michelle used my mini kit #3 for this layout. There is so much to take in on Michelle’s layouts and I love all her journaling.

The page above and below include elements from mini kit #10. Love seeing the confetti pocket being used like that.

Michelle’s week fifty was created using my Christmas mini kit #9. I love her confetti pocket to the left there.

Mini kit #8 based on October Afternoon’s 9 to 5 collection.

Mini kit #6 was used here. Again, more journaling. Love it Michelle!

Michelle said:  “All used (referring to Studio Calico, October Afternoon and 5th and Frolic collections) because I LOVE the ranges especially the last one.”

Michelle’s week thirty-three was created using mini kit #4 from Polka Dot Creative.

To see more of Michelle’s wonderful creativity jump on over to her blog. Lots and lots to see.
