Art Journal, 2014 | It’s About me, just for today.

Hello Thursday!

Ok. Feeling a little overwhelmed. It’s the end of the year. The kids finish school for 2014 in less than two weeks and there are lots of events to attend and prepare for. I have taken on many projects. Each of them I love doing, creating for and I am so grateful for the work. But oh my giddy aunt. I am maxed. Hence my art journal page for today. It’s about me. Just for today. Read More

Scarlett Lily is Eight (photos of my Art Journal, 2014).

Hello Thursday!

Eight years ago I was having my third baby in a Saudi Arabian hospital. A little baby girl. We called her Scarlett Lily. It was an awesome experience (in every sense of the word). With my Arab doctor (smelling of cigarette smoke and telling me with his remarkably calming and trusting voice not to waste my energy screaming instead push!!) and my ‘shorter than me’ Jordanian midwife (with the kindest, most empathetic face I have ever connected eyes with and who didn’t speak a word of English yet knew what to do when I needed her to do it), along with my husband and best friend Rose — Scarlett Lily, a little 7 pound bubba screamed her way into our world. Art Journal, 2014 | Pa.

Hello Thursday!

For my Art Journal post with Get Messy this week I’d like to remember my Pa. He died on Sunday. He was 100 years old. And while I nod my head, smile and agree when everyone says what a wonderful, remarkable, milestone of an age he reached my heart still hurts for him. I know that he was 100 years old. I know that he lived an amazing life. I know that we were all so lucky to have him for so long… But still I hurt. Selfishly I miss him. Selfishly I miss them both. My sister, my brother and I had a wonderful, happy, Read More

Art Journal, 2014 | Do what you love.

Hello Thursday!

IMG_2769

I have spent all of my Thursday stretching canvases in preparation for this weeks script commissions. My hands hurt. I almost staple my shirt to some timber with my beloved staple gun and our little cottage here at 209 now looks like an art supply shop with primed canvases drying on plastic Read More

Art Journal, 2014 | August prompt with Get Messy | Who Am I?

Hello Thursday!

IMG_1874

We’re continuing on with our Get Messy Thursday posts today. This week our August Prompt was due. The prompt was set by creative vixen Caylee Grey.

August Prompt: A Self Portrait in Objects.

Journal Challenge: Who are you? If you had one page to show the world who you are what would you put on it?

Art challenge: Use anything except an actual photo of yourself to make a self portrait.

I had a look back through my photos that I’d posted on Instagram over the last few months and decided to select a few that showed a bit about who I am and what I like. I love working with the smaller photos.

To add texture to my journal pages I covered them with masking tape. This also adds a bit of strength to the pages. I’m using a lot of paint in my journal and it’s becoming wonderfully chunky but I think I might have to start gluing pages together to add stability.

I love to read so I thought it would be fun to use my trusty old book pages which I covered with white gesso. I adhered my photos in a grid pattern and journaled all the way around and around and around the page with what I like/love etc.

This prompt was really fun to follow.

Art Journal, 2014 | I’m joining a club of international creative vixons!

Hello Thursday!

GetMessy2

Many new creative doors and opportunities have opened after I decided to take my brush script work a little more seriously and over the last couple of months I have connected with some beautiful, creative and colourful minds all over the world. One opportunity that has come my way is getting involved with the Get Messy art journal challenge.

Get Messy is an art journal challenge where a gang of crafty vixens are sharing art journal pages we have created to practise our skills and push past our creative limits with hopes to inspire. We share our pages without restraint every week, and once a month we create around a prompt. Go check out these crazy talented ladies who are creating pages who each have a unique perspective and style. We will be sharing our work around social media so follow the hashtag #getmessyartjournal.

Each Thursday we will all be sharing our art journal pages and linking up with the other crafty vixens.

The first prompt called “Let’s Have a Party!” was created by Lauren of ‘Lauren-Likes’. The Art Challenge: Plan a fun party! Create a collage detailing what your party will be like.

I decided to plan a cocktail party. Little black dresses. Twinkle lights. Handmade invitations. Cocktails and champagne.
