Project Life, 2014 | Week Thirty-Six with A Piece of Cake Designs.

Hello Wednesday!

And welcome to week thirty-six of my Project Life journey and current ‘catch up on Project Life campaign’. I’m joined today by A Piece of Cake Designs. I was sent one of their scrumptious October Cup Cake kits to use in my Project Life album. It was so much fun using the colours included in the kit. There are so many embellishments and a gorgeous background stamp. I have plenty of ‘ingredients’ left over from this October Cup Cake kit and plan to use them on cards for my girls and the many birthday parties they have Read More

December Daily, 2013 | Days Five and Six.

Hello Monday!

Last week I published a post called ‘December Daily, 2013 | No photos?‘. You can read it here for some ideas.

My kiddos were with their dad for days 5, 6 and 7. They returned on day 8.

This is what I did to fill in the days that I had no photos for.

Day Five | I had used a 6×8 SN@P! page protector for day 4 so slipped a 6×8 piece of gold foil doily vellum from our Documenting December kit behind.

A postcard arrived in our mail box during the week. It read ‘real life Christmas’. Those words ‘real life’ inspired me to write a little promise to myself and to my children because…

…I am determined to love, live, embrace, enjoy, and keep special this ‘real life’ of ours. No more hiding. No more pretending. No more compromising. It’s time for our ‘real life Christmas.’

Then I totally indulged and embellished the heck out of the page.

Inspired by Ali Edwards writing with gold pen onto vellum, or was it overlay?, I wrote a little note to ‘us’ on a piece of Jamestown vellum from Studio Calico {which I currently have in my store on sale} using my Slick Writer.

I used one of the flair buttons included in our kit exclusively designed for us by A Piece of Cake Designs.

I used left over vellum stars that I had lying around and I added a paper clip bow, the gold heart fabric and ho-ho-ho embellishment made by Leanne Oxley who sent me a bunch of Christmas/handmade/happy mail goodness. {thank you honey!!!! Leanne has a gorgeous blog called Paper Snippets.}

That ‘today’ letterpress was created by Kellie and was included in our Documenting December kit.

My number 5 is an Amy Tangerine rubber thicker from her new Cut & Paste collection.

Then I attacked the page with the sewing machine. Of course…

From one extreme to another.

Day Six | plain but with another important message to my brood who I was thinking about constantly during their absence.

I’m a tactile person and I have a real interest in textiles. While I love working with page protectors I’m going to try and work more texture into my work.

I took one of my Calico Fabric Hearts {which I’m selling as packs of three here} and lightly sprayed it with a gold Mister Huey which was included in our Documenting December kit. I haven’t used the Mister Huey yet so I was excited when this idea hit me.

After the gold spray dried I simply adhered the Calico Fabric Heart to a piece of 6×8 Jamestown vellum. So that the Calico Fabric Heart was still ‘touchable’ I machine sewed the 6×8 piece of vellum onto one of the card stock inserts that was including in the SN@P! binder. I used the stitching as a border.

Again…I. HAD. FUN!

Wishing you all a WONDERFUL start to your week! xxx

December Daily, 2013 | Day Two.

Hello Tuesday night!

My day two which took under 30 minutes to complete. This included printing the photos time. I’m finding that keeping this ‘quick and simple’ plan in my head is helping me to not stress about it too much. I’m looking forward to it as opposed to feeling overwhelmed by it all.

What photos do I include in my December Daily album? | I have grappled with this question heaps in the past. Do I include photos that are exclusive to the subject of Christmas or do I include the photos that capture the moments, whether they be large or small, of those days leading up to Christmas regardless if they are directly related to Christmas itself.

Again, I run the risk of over thinking it. And in the spirit of trying not to do that I have decided to include any photos that capture events that touch my heart, resinate within my soul and mean so much to us as a family.

This moment was one of them.

We had an amazing experience yesterday watching my 10 year old William take part in a Rhee Taekwondo beach training session. Over a hundred participants in the Hunter Valley region where there. All ages. It was spectacular.

Creatively I used a strip of the burlap from our Documenting December kit and simply ran it down the side of the page protector. Sometimes these style of page protectors can be tricky to work with but I always find that using this section of the page protector as a boarder works well.

I used my tiny attacher to staple it to the back of the white card stock that I had used for the previous day. Yes you can see the back of the staples on the other side but I’m ok with that.

I added some of the twine that I had left over from the spine decoration and just let that hang freely down the the burlap strip. I punched out a polka dot vellum star, adhered the number two on it and stapled it twice over the twine securing all three elements.

With the burlap and the card stock combined the long stripe insert became quite heavy and easily slipped out of the page protector pocket. If this ever happens, don’t panic. Just add a little staple to the outside of the page protector and it will be enough to will hold everything in place.

Both the journaling card and the photo are 4×4. I journaled directly onto a piece of patterned paper from the 6×6 Magical paper pad from Studio Calico which was included in our kit. And I used another polka dot vellum star and the ‘w’ out of the Fox gold glitter thickers by Dear Lizzy to symbolise William’s name.

I’m excited to be doing the Elf on the Shelf this year with my four kiddos. We opened up the boxes on Sunday night and welcomed Samantha and Johnny to our world. It feels good to be able to start a new family tradition as the five of us.

I’m not going to include a photo of the Elves every single day. Just when they are doing anything super cute.

Creatively I took one of the kraft 8.5×11 card stock sheets that was included in our kit and cut it down to the 4×6 size. The little Instagram photo of Johnny is only 2.5x 2.5 leaving plenty of room for the photo to ‘breathe’ and for some journaling.

I add one of the new Elf on the Shelf flair buttons which is designed and sold by our very own Australian girl Raquel from A Piece of Cake Designs. Raquel also designed the flair that is included in our kit. She has a boy and a girl set available and they are just adorable. You can find them here.

I stitched around the edge of the 4×6 to create a border and journaled with my trusty black fine tip Artline felt tip pen.

On the back of the 4×6 piece of kraft card stock is a 4×6 piece of Lucky Lady Bug vellum from Dear Lizzy which was also included in our kit. I adhered a photo of Samantha and her new friend on with tape runner, added a star which I punched out of left over patterned paper from the previous page (I love using scraps to tie everything in) and ran around the edge of the photo with my sewing machine. I only put the tape runner on the back of where the photo is so you wouldn’t see it through the vellum and adhered the entire 4×6 piece onto the back of the 4×6 kraft piece.

Looking forward to creating Day Three. The kids had their school Christmas concert today. And I wrapped a few presents. Both events will make great content for my December Daily.

Hope you are all loving the creative process and getting the time to tell your stories of December.

April 2013 Mini Kit available now!

Hello Sunday!

So I told everyone that I would be releasing my April mini kit by the end of the week. All my beautiful collaborators had their products in to me on time (thank you!) but life got hectic with the last day of term etc blah and the release didn’t happen. Bummer.

Then in the early hours of this morning I instagrammed that the release would be today. I even through in a ‘promise’. Well, technically I’m being true to my word, however, I know that you all wanted it sooner. I’m so sorry and thank you so much for your patience. xxx

Included in the collection is a patterned paper called ‘Me Oh My’. It has 12 really fun 3 x 4 cards and the colours are scrumptious. It also includes a bit of black which I love working with. A big thank you to Karen, Sarah and Raquel for your collaborations. As always such a wonderful, fun experience working with you girls. xxx

Thank you so much for you continued enthusiasm and support with my mini kits. I know I have said it before many, many times but I really, REALLY mean it.

I’ll be on my little lonesome for the next 5 days while my beautiful babes go on their next adventure with their dad so you’ll be ‘seeing’ a lot from me. Thank goodness for my ‘creative place’ during these quiet times.
