DIY Sherbet Lemon Dishwashing Powder.
There is a slowly-but-surely mindful living evolution taking place here at 209. One aspect of our journey is the desire to reduce the toxic load in our lives. Once way we are doing this is by replacing our chemical based cleaning products with natural DIY alternatives.
Here’s our latest addition – dishwashing powder – bought on by a skin reaction that I had on Sunday morning from touching one of the dishwashing tablets I have used for years. I’m putting the skin reaction down to my body beginning to reject chemicals after taking on a more holistic approach to living. I was going about our usual morning routine of emptying and filling up the dishwasher. I opened up the little packet to get the tablet out and felt an instant tingling, then itching and by the time I’d closed the dishwasher I had little raised blistery bumps all over my fingers and on the inside of my hands. Hmmm…. Thinking it was a one off I sprayed some Wound Spray onto it and continued with our morning routine. While the itching stopped, thanks to the Wound Spray, the little blistery bumps remained. Same thing happened that night. And again the following morning. Ok. Done with the dishwashing tablets. I finally got the message…find a natural alternative. So I did.
Sherbet Lemon Dishwashing Powder.
2 cups washing soda
2 cups borax
6 tablespoons citric acid powder
30-40 drops pure LEMON essential oil*
Mix all together well and store in an airtight container.
Use two tablespoons per load.
The dishes are sneaky clean, the glasses sparkle, the cutlery is shiny, my skin is smooth and bump free again and our little home smell zesty and fresh. Winner!
It’s getting harder and harder not to go on and on to you about how wonderful life is since making the decision to get back to basics, slow down and be more mindful of what I bring into our little home. We are using our commonsense and finding natural alternatives that work with our bodies, not against them. It’s fun, and it feels really, really good.

Do research Borax, I would not be including it in a product that may be inhaled or be even slightly residual on eating utensils. I have never included it and I get perfectly good results, could not not mention it Jodie given what I found in my research. Ps doTERRA inspires so many diy products!
