Glorious Gifts of Natural Goodness That Keep On Giving.
When we moved into our little cottage two years ago we were given some of the ingredients to make salsa as a housewarming gift. But the gift did not come in the form of a grocery bag full of tomatoes, capsicums, parsley and chilli. Nope. Our friends were much too practical for that. They came to our home with plants ready to be placed in our bare, but ready, veggie patch. Fabulous!!
A tomato plant – which has given us many beautiful cherry tomatoes and seedings which we’ve paid forward to others.
A mini red capsicum plant – still baring gorgeous little red capsicums which go well in my salads and are tasty enough just to eat whole.
A flat leaf parsley plant – this thing has grown like a weed and has been cut back more times than I can remember. It too has had seedings which we have given to others.
And of course the glorious red chilli plant – I don’t cook with a lot of chilli in our food. My babes taste bud just aren’t up for the challenge just yet but zip lock bags of red chillies are given out to friends and family on a regular basis.
As for the salsa? Yes. We’ve made a few batches over the two years we have had these special housewarming gifts and they were scrumptious. But these plants have given us so much more and continue to do so.
Best presents ever.
