An Early Christmas at 209.
We are celebrating Christmas early today. My brood are heading off to England for Christmas and New Year with their father. The mother in me wants to scream “no way!”. I want to grab them all and hide out in the hills until the merry season is over. Obviously that’s not going to happen. The lover of travel in me is excited for them, even a tad jealous. How I long to jump on a plane and arrive hours later in a completely different country. Oh the thrill! Sigh.
So for the last few months the two sides of me have been leading this tag team type existence. As I chat to the kids about their trip I am genuinely excited and happy for them. What an opportunity! Life changing! Mind broadening! I talk to them about the places they will go and I tell them how I felt when I first saw what they are about to see. London / Paris / Switzerland. Oh my giddy aunt. It will be so fabulous! Then the traveler settles down and the mum appears all serious and sincere, sometimes with a wobbly voice. Stay together. Be safe. Hold each others hands. Listen to your father. If you are scared at night wake a brother or a sister and snuggle in close together. Help each other. Be patient with each other. Listen to each other. Be there for one another. My heart wants to break.
Today we are celebrating Christmas early and I’m grateful for this day. We exchanged gifts this morning and later today we are all be hanging out with each other and extended family. I’ll be cooking a few new recipes from my Christmas presents the kids gave me. How did they know I wanted a Donna Hay recipe book and a gardening book on growing veggies in a little garden. Aren’t they brilliant! 😉
Wishing you a wonderful, wonderful day. XO
