Well this wellness gig is taking over my life! And is feels mighty fabulous my lovelies!!
If you follow me on social media, particularly my favourite platform Instagram @jodie.york, you may have noticed that I let you all in on a little secret of mine this week. Over the past few months I’ve been incorporating essential oils into out day to day lives, experimenting with them in a whole crazy array of ways including diffusing (in the air), topically (on the skin) and popping a few drops in our water and tea. I’ve even, wait for it, been cooking with them! Muffins! Salad dressings! I. Have. Been. Having. A. Ball.
Incorporating essential oils into our day to day lives is yet another piece of the wellness journey that I have embraced this year. I’m all about the deliberate healthy living, healthy lifestyle. I’ve slowed my life right down and I have a strong curiosity for leaning about a holistic way of life. And it’s working. For all of us.
Now that I have seen the benefits of the amazing world of essential oils I thought it would be nice to share my personal findings with any and all of you that are interested in knowing more – starting with my personal favourite flower in our own little cottage garden – lavender.
I have loved the scent of lavender for as long as I can remember. We have lavender plants surrounding our little cottage here and every single day I love to brush pass them, taking in their scent. Our plants have just begun flowering. Divine. One of the most common essential oils that we have been using here lately at 209 is lavender.
The kids put a couple of drops (and you only need a couple as it’s so concentrated) into their bath. They adore the smell and it gives them a sense of calm before bed even after their nightly bowl of ice-cream. True story. As a mum of four getting them all into bed in a civilised manner…yep…any help is most welcomed.
I put a single drop into the palm of my hand, rub my hands together, cup my hands over my face and inhale long deep inhalations to induce relaxation right on my bedtime. It helps me to calm my mind and shut off my brain before my head hits the pillow. I also run my hands over my pillow to get that scent on there. Heavenly.
Lavender is also fabulous for rubbing into the soles of your feet, again to induce that calm and relaxing vibe. Did you know that essential oils are absorbed mightly quickly through your feet? I didn’t until recently. The kids love their nightly foot massages. Lucky little chooks.
Hands up if you ever get a stiff neck after a session at the computer? ME! Rub a couple of drops of lavender essential oil into your neck and shoulders to help relieve that tension.
There are so many benefits to using lavender in an essential oil form. These are just a few that I have come to use on a regular basis within our own four walls.
If you are curious to know more about essential oils contact me. I love talking about this new world I’ve found.
Have fun on your Friday lovelies! XO
